Rabbinic Reflections: Perspective on Our Mission to Israel

Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 5:30 PM

Join us for a convening of Manhattan rabbis, fresh off the heels of a mission to Israel, who participated in the trip to show their support at a critical moment -- just days after a ceasefire that ended almost two weeks of violence.

In a conversation moderated by UJA's CEO Eric S. Goldstein, Rabbis Rachel Ain, Angela Buchdahl, Elliot Cosgrove, Yosie Levine, and Chaim Steinmetz will share key takeaways from their journey; what this latest crisis and its resolution means for Israel and the greater Jewish community; and how we can help grassroots efforts to create a true shared society and move Israel forward.

Women on the Front Lines is the only book to explore the lives of women who serve in the combat units of the Israeli army. Through color photography and the soldiers’ own words, the book offers a glimpse into the experiences, fears, challenges, and accomplishments of these brave young women.

JBC & SPS Book Series: Steve Zipperstein Presents, Law and the Arab-Israeli Conflict: The Trials of Palestine

Wednesday, April 21 at 5:00 PM

During the early years of the Arab-Jewish conflict in Palestine, the parties repeatedly used the law to gain leverage against each other and influence international opinion. In two instances — the Shaw Commission in 1929 and the Lofgren Commission in 1930 — Arabs and Jews faced off against each other in full-blown trials before British and international judges. The arguments the parties made in those three trials continue resonating in the conflict today, nearly one hundred years later.
