Shabbat

Join us for our congregation’s warm, intimate Shabbat services.

Fridays at 6:15 pm, Saturdays at 9:15 am

Our Shabbat services, currently held in-person and on Zoom and Livestream, both Friday night and Saturday morning, are traditional, egalitarian services. We use the Siddur Lev Shalem and the Etz Hayim Chumash, both publications of the Conservative movement. The services are generally led by Cantor Luis Cattan with Barak Levy as our Torah reader, but we are delighted if someone would like to lead a part of the service, for example read Torah or Haftorah. The services are complete, including the full reading of the Torah, , but we are always conscious of the world in which we live and often add extra prayers and/or commentaries when needed. We pride ourselves on the involvement of our youth in services. Aside from the services specifically led by our kids (i.e. Teen Shabbat), many of our kids when preparing for their Bar and Bat Mitzvah take an active role in leading parts of the service. A highlight is when students recite part of their Haftorah which they will do completely in the year to come!

Throughout the year special, speakers or congregants volunteer to give the D’var Torah. Usually, Rabbi Ain delivers sermons from the pulpit, but she occasionally does interactive text studies during the sermon slot. We recognize that not everyone is as familiar or comfortable with the Hebrew language, so transliterated guides are available for both Friday night and Shabbat morning as well as for parts of the High Holidays.
