Ryan Lavarnway Speaks at SPS

Ryan Lavarnway: World Series Champion, Retired Major League Baseball player, Olympian, and a member of the Team Israel International baseball team. He will speak about his book, Baseball and Belonging, discovering his Jewish identity, and how it changed his life.
To honor the memory of her late husband Jay Moore, a huge sports fan, Barbara Zinn Moore has generously underwritten this program.

Historic Origins of Shabbat with Rabbinic Intern Eitan Bloostein

Have you every wondered how Shabbat came to be what it is today? Historic Origins of Shabbat will explore some of the history of Shabbat from its ancient roots to show how we can continue to make meaning of it to this day. We will look at the Torah, explore ancient culture, and discover how Jews practiced Shabbat through history.

Come discover what Jewish themes pop-culture is really referencing with Rabbinic Intern Eitan Bloostein. We will start by discovering theme of exile and return with the Rose family in “Schitts Creek” before we turn to exploring Taylor Swift’s biblical references.
