Negev Virtual Journey
Negev Virtual Journey
led by Mike Hollander
Monday, October 4 @ 12 pm
Although sixty percent of Israel’s land mass is desert, most of it the Negev, this largely open space has played a significant role in ancient and modern Jewish history. This session explores the biblical stories, the period of the Nabateans who controlled the ancient spice route, as well as the modern challenges of the Bedouin communities, environment issues, establishing new settlements, and the growth and development of Beer Sheva, from a small village to becoming the center of Israel’s cyber technology research. It will also look at why Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben Gurion, spent the last 20 years of his life looking for inspiration in this vast and beautiful landscape.
